White House Task Force, Interagency Committee, and River Navigators convene meetings to discuss American Heritage Rivers Initiative.
 

Alex Rogers joined his counterparts in the other thirteen designated AHR regions for four days of meetings in Washington, D.C. to promote economic development, environmental protection, and cultural/historic preservation projects. The group met with senior Administration officials from numerous agencies, including the President's Council on Environmental Quality, Office of Management and Budget, EPA, Interior, Economic Development Administration, Agriculture, Small Business Administration, Office of Surface Mining, and Education. The group also met with Congressman Paul Kanjorski and other members of the AHR Congressional Caucus.

During the Interagency Committee with senior Administration officials from more than twelve agencies and departments, Alex Rogers addressed the group on behalf of the Navigators to suggest proposals to enhance the AHR initiative and advance environmental protection and economic development projects. With specific respect to the Upper Susquehanna-Lackawanna Watershed, Rogers discussed progress on the GIS Environmental Master Plan and other projects to reclaim mine-scarred land and polluted water and promote revitalization of Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania.
