The project would entail placing a cover or a bridge over the creek from Rock Street to Market Street. A portion from the city line to Rock Street is already covered. Finishing this project would greatly enhance the downtown area of Shamokin by removing blight and reducing a costly maintenance burden. It would also enhance the entire downtown area by connecting two public parcels of land which could then be landscaped to form a park area, suitable for any number of civic functions.

The Penn State Geisinger Medical Center would like to donate an old Ward School to the Borough of Danville. The Borough intends to rehabilitate and convert the 15,000-square-feet building into a center for local non-profit organizations (American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, United Way, food pantry, etc.). The Borough intends to name the facility after Abigail Geisinger, the founder of Geisinger Medical Center. However, the building is in need of major repairs before it can be occupied. For example, the roof needs to be replaced, and the second floor needs heating, wiring, and handicapped accessibility. It is the Borough’s and the non-profits’ vision to house the organizations under one roof so that resources and expenses can be shared and so that delivery of services can be enhanced. Everyone realizes the economies to be had by housing the organizations under one roof.
